Effects on Uric Acid Metabolism of the Drugs except the Antihyperuricemics

چکیده
The normal adult male has a total body urate pool of approximately 1200 mg. Daily turnover of about 60 percent of the urate pool is achieved by balanced production and elimination of uric acid. About one-third of the human uric acid is derived from diet, while two-thirds is generated endogenously. The major site of purine synthesis is in the liver. The synthesis of uric acid occurs along two pathways, referred to as the de novo and the salvage pathways. Synthesis of the purine nucleotides begins with the formation of phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate (PRPP) by PRPP synthetase and leads to the first fully formed nucleotide, inosine 5’-monophosphate (IMP). IMP is converted into either adenosine 5’-monophosphate (AMP) or guanosine 5’-monophosphate (GMP) through two distinct reaction pathways. Catabolism of the purine nucleotides leads ultimately to the production of uric acid (Figure 1). On the other hand, about two-thirds of daily uric acid is excreted via the kidneys, and the remainder is excreted in feces. Many transport proteins are candidate participants in urate handling, with URAT1, GLUT9 and ABCG2 being the best characterized to date (Figure 2).

Effects of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan on the uric acid, urea, and creatinine levels: A narrative review
Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. During this holy month, healthy Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, and smoking from dawn to dusk. Although fasting is obligatory for every adult Muslim, if it has hazardous effects on the body, it is prohibited. Due to some Islamic principles, patients are exempted from fasting; however, due to the willingness of some...

متن کاملEvaluation of Serum Uric Acid and Glutathione Levels in Diabetic Patients and Healthy Subjects
Objective: It is well known that diabetes is one of the main health challenges. According to the evidence presented in recent years by investigators, serum uric acid has emerged as a possible risk factor for diabetes mellitus. The aim of the present study was to compare the mean serum uric acid and the antioxidant activity of glutathione levels in patients with diabetes and the control group. ...
متن کاملEffect of garlic (Allium sativum) extract on levels of urea and uric acid in normal and streptozotocin-diabetic rats
The effects of garlic bulbs alcoholic extract (Allium sativum) on the level of urea and uric acid were investigated in both normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The normal and diabetic rats were administrated orally with the extract (100, 250, 500 mg/kg) or glibenclamide (600 mg/kg) for 14 days. Oral administration of the garlic extract (0.25 and 0.5 g/kg body wt.) for 14 days exhib...
